When someone compliments something I am wearing, I say “I know! Look at that!” It’s not until after they leave the room where I find space to think “Maybe thank you applies” but I agree, I say that sweater does its thing, it lives, it has lived before me. Other people have touched it. Someone made it. Someone else might have thought of it. Thought of it first, I’m not sure. I’m going to start complimenting people like this “I like that sweater on you” or “I like the way that sweater moves on you” or “I like you moving” or “I like you right now.” We’ll see where that gets me.
